What can we do for our patients to help them grow this beneficial plaque? The simple answer may surprise you…

Course objectives:

-- Explain the mixed ecological approach to caries causation

-- Understand when to recommend appropriate therapies

-- Integrate white spot reversal and white spot prevention strategies

-- Stop watching lesions get bigger and see them get smaller

The dental professionals are recognizing a changing philosophy in practice for preventing dental caries, reversing enamel lesions and minimizing enamel degradation with the use of combination fluoride and calcium phosphate therapies. Recent research reflects great success in integrating ACP to promote fluoride uptake in individuals with compromising oral health risks.

This program will highlight specific cases that pose the greatest risk for caries and demonstrate the application of a risk assessment (CAMBRA) to design an appropriate prevention and maintenance plan.

Since the discovery of adhesion to tooth substrate some 55 years ago, many approaches have been taken to meet the challenges every clinician faces. Bond strengths, durability, and technique have been defined as product generations that have evolved to efficient, simplified techniques albeit with the loss of tensile bond strengths characteristic of more complicated to use "gold standard" systems. This CE webinar will discuss the necessity for a system that meets every challenge with a no compromise solution with a new product class that may "re-define" how every clinician will practice adhesive dentistry.

Periodontal Disease and Smokers

Free CE IneedCE: Periodontal Disease and Smokers http://ht.ly/68lZx
Effective Date: December 1, 2010 Expiration Date: November 30, 2013

Format: Self Instructional - Audio Visual

Periodontal disease is more prevalent and more severe in smokers than in nonsmokers. The host response in smokers is altered by a number of factors including increased gingival crevicular fluid, adhesion molecules and genetics. In addition, smokers are poor healers compared to nonsmokers and their response to periodontal therapy can be compromised which can result in continued progression of periodontal disease, or the need for more treatment.

The overall goal of this presentation is to provide the clinician with information on periodontal disease and its treatment in smokers. Following this presentation, the participant should be able to do the following:
  • List the categories of periodontal disease
  • List and describe the prevalence of periodontal disease in smokers and nonsmokers
  • List and describe the differences in the smoker’s host response in periodontal disease
  • List and describe the risk factors for peri-implantitis
  • List and describe the smoker’s response to periodontal treatment and possible treatment options

The application of a 4-meta desensitizing agent has shown clinical efficacy to reduce a patient's perceived dentin hypersensitivity with this easy-to-follow protocol.

Resolution of root sensitivity is often frustrating due to an overwhelming amount of choices and various responses that frequently involve multiple patient visits. Many practitioners may need a better understanding of the science of root sensitivity. Numerous steps can be implemented to reduce a patient's perceived dentin hypersensitivity. The application of a 4-meta desensitizing agent has shown clinical efficacy when the easy-to-follow protocol is used. These small but important steps can help ensure that both the practitioner and patient will be happy with the outcome and the patient will be virtually pain-free.

Innovation in Composite Bonding

TranZitional vs. Traditional: Innovation in Composite Bonding

Presenter: Dr. Corky Willhite

CE Credits: 1 CEU (Home Study)

Release Date: 8/31/2010

Traditional dentistry is often unaffordable to many patients that need esthetic and functional improvements. Today’s composites are able to successfully restore many of these patients—for lower cost and with less tooth reduction—while still being very profitable for the practice. This course is very different than other resin courses, it’s NOT about layering composite for “ultimate” esthetics, but will cover a new option to help many patients. A predictable technique to achieve improved esthetics will be covered, yet the focus of the course is how to build functional, long-lasting composite restorations—even for non-compliant patients.

Learning Objectives:

· Learn a practical technique to build anterior guidance with composite—even for severe wear cases and non-compliant bruxers

· When and how to open Vertical Dimension to aid in restoring tough cases—it’s easier than you may think

· How to make a margin “invisible” when it is in plain sight—and other pearls for natural esthetics

· Learn how to prevent future tooth wear in even young bruxers without a nighttime appliance

· Understand the requirements that allow composite restorations to last and why porcelain isn’t always the best option
